WORRY.

“WORRY.” is a pop punk album released in 2016 by Jeff Rosenstock that focuses on themes of cynicism and self-loathing but has an overall upbeat and energetic feeling. I really appreciate how this record takes these ideas and turns them into something you can sing along to, without masking any of their ugliness.

I wanted to challenge myself to create a new identity for this record that represents all of the complicated and gross feelings that can be found within the lyrics of each song while still maintaining the sugar-coated appearance that the dynamic sounds provide.

The earthworm represents the artist’s bad habits and shortcomings, while the gummy worm represents feeling helpless to a system that promotes consumption and complacency. These ideas blend together throughout each song, so the two halves of the worm do just that.

Merchandise + Promo

While expanding this system, I was inspired by the recognizable color combinations found in sour gummy worms. The album packaging mainly uses the colors of blue and pink gummy worm, but I wanted to incorporate the red + yellow and orange + green pairings elsewhere in the system. This way, the bright colors represent the energetic sound of the record while the juxtaposition of real worms and candy worms hint at the heavier tones of the album without unpacking them.

At the same time, the vibrancy of the colors makes for appealing merchandise and eye-catching promotional materials that stand out in peoples Instagram feeds and on the street.
